Have a Happy and Healthy New Year

Things I have learned or re-learned in 2009:

  • You can always put anything off until tomorrow.
  • Dogs love you unconditionally.
  • Children and grandchildren are among God's greatest blessings.
  • Hearing loss is the pits.
  • Hairstyles (and hair) come and go.
  • You can still drive a car after it is paid for.
  • You can teach an old dog new tricks.
  • Great music is timeless.
  • The Bible is still relevant to life's issues.
  • It is possible (though not easy) to change long standing habits.
  • I have the smartest and most wonderful grandchildren in the world
  • Depression is more than "rainy days and Mondays."
  • Good health is a blessing from God. I should not take it for granted.
  • God knew what He was doing when He gave you children when you were young.
  • Life is a mystery -- and an adventure.
  • Life is more "gray" than "black and white."
  • Nothing is simple.
  • God has a sense of humor.
  • You can love what you do for a living.
  • God has a plan for every person and you cannot be happy if you are out of that plan.
  • Baseball is still the "national past time."
  • Laughter is good medicine.
  • Balance is the key to almost everything.
  • The Church is of God.
  • Saints are not perfect people.
  • Everybody messes up at times.
  • God is faithful.
  • A soft answer turns away wrath. (I know it. I wish I found it easier to practice.)
  • The person who is absolutely, positively certain often isn't.
  • Still water runs deep.
  • A rattling wagon carries no load.
  • It is possible to be content with your circumstances no matter what they are.
  • Being content is not the same as satisfied.
  • There is always something else to learn.
  • Friends are friends forever.
  • God is good.
  • I am a blessed man.
  • Growing older is not too bad.
  • There are more good people than bad.
  • There are a lot of good United Methodist preachers -- but there's room for more.
  • People, especially Christian people, are generous when presented with a need.
  • Much of what we count as "essential" really isn't.
  • It rains on the just and the unjust alike.
  • You can learn more by listening than by talking (I still have a lot of work on this one).
  • Travel is a wonderful way to learn and grow. (Wish I could do more.)
  • All people are more alike than different.
  • I don’t deserve all the good that comes my way. Nor the bad for that matter.
  • I need others.
  • There are more ways to serve God than we can imagine.
  • Ice cream is the perfect comfort food.
  • When you fall down there is always someone to help you up.
  • God loves me just as I am -- but helps me to be better.
Wonder what God will teach me and you during this coming year. I wish you a happy and healthy new year and one in which you experience God’s goodness and grace in abundance.
